Decisions regarding layoffs of permanent faculty or staff will be deferred through the 2010 calendar year, provided that the university’s budget projections do not dramatically change, President Ortiz said in his weekly video message. Programmatic cuts in Student Affairs, athletics and Academic affairs has, in part, allowed the campus some breathing room, he said.
“We are by no means out of the woods. The state budget has not recovered. But your
extraordinary work over the past year has given us some breathing room.”
The president congratulations the Greek Community in raising more than $30,000 for charities and scholarships and giving more than 3,500 volunteer hours. Students also donated 6,500 cans of food to Pomona Week and Seed, which feeds more than 14,000 families.
This week, the university will recognize the outstanding advisors at a celebration on Thursday, May 13 in the CLA Building. Nine individuals will be honored, as well as two programs.
