In his first video address in spring quarter, President Ortiz congratulates the men’s basketball team for capturing the program’s first NCAA Division II Championship title. He invites the campus community to honor the players, coaches and staff pep rally on Tuesday, March 30, at noon in the University Quad.
The president also congratulates the members of the cyber security team, who again won the Western Regional Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, which was held over the weekend at Cal Poly Pomona. Eight student teams from regional colleges and universities tested their skills and ability to manage and protect a commercial network while under threat of hackers.
Last week, Cal Poly Pomona was in the news about the CLA building’s ability to withstand a major earthquake. According to a seismic expert, the building does not pose a major risk to its occupants and should hold up well in a moderate to large earthquake, Ortiz says. He encourages the faculty, staff and students to review earthquake safety procedures at www.cpp.edu/~rms/pdf/eq2.pdf.
