Officer Keith Lanning, University Police, represented Cal Poly Pomona at a press conference in December with State Superintendent Jack O’Connell, who encouraged the public to avoid driving under the influence.
University Police officers actively participate in checkpoints and DUI patrols as part of “Avoid the 100,” a county-wide effort to curb drinking and driving. The year-round campaign focuses on the December holidays, Super Bowl weekend and other major holidays. Officers also participate in safety education and awareness events for the public.
Other agencies that take part in “Avoid the 100” include city police departments, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol, Alcoholic Beverage Control, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving and others.
