Christmas Trees Arrive at Farm Store

Posted on December 7, 2009

Christmas Trees Arrive at Farm Store

Ernesto Saucedo, a sophomore international business major, unwraps Christmas trees at the Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch.

The Farm Store at Kellogg Ranch is getting into the holiday spirit, selling fresh Christmas trees, poinsettias and holiday gift items.

Freshly cut last week in Oregon, the Christmas trees arrived at the Farm Store on Dec. 3. The evergreens range from 3 to 7 feet tall and are priced from $50 to $140. The Farm Store carries four types of trees — Noble fir, Douglas fir, Grand fir and Scottish pine. Fresh holiday wreaths and pine branches, from the same Christmas tree farm in Camas Valley, Ore., are also available.

“These are fresh trees. They didn’t sit a warehouse like those you find at other stores,” says Dawn Taccone, Farm Store manager. “Most other trees are picked in October and sit in cold storage.

“These are Grade 1 trees, known for their uniformity and deep green color,” she adds.

The Farm Store also carries potted poinsettias in a variety of sizes and colors, ranging from $7.49 to $34.99. Other popular gift items include holiday candy, cookies, homemade candy canes and Cal Poly Pomona-grown produce. Navel oranges, mandarins, grapefruit and avocados are in season. Customers can also put together a custom gift basket with a variety of gourmet food items, such as wildflower honey, specialty salsas, and cake and cookie mixes.

The Farm Store is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, visit www.cpp.edu/~farmstore or call (909) 869-4906.
