Those who enjoy classic rock 'n' roll and fine food can indulge their senses and help local youth at the same time at the Concert Under the Stars on Saturday, Aug. 8.
The concert will benefit The Academy for Literacy through the Arts, which provides a four-week summer arts program at the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center as well as free monthly Family Fun Days. The academy uses the arts as a vehicle to improve students' writing abilities, cognitive thinking and communication skills.
This year's concert features The Answer, whose music ranges from the Beatles to Creedence Clearwater to the Doors. Tickets are $55, which includes parking and a catered dinner by Walter's of Claremont. The Hafif Family Foundation, which sponsors the Concerts Under the Stars series, covers all costs, such as food, entertainment and staff, which means every penny of ticket sales benefits the community. $35 of each ticket is a tax-deductible donation.
The event will take place at the Hafif estate in the foothills of La Verne. Gates open at 5 p.m. Appetizers will be served at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30 p.m., with the concert following at 7:30 p.m.
