Every can and bottle counts when it comes to recycling. In fact, the campus recycled about 3,500 tons of waste last year — that's about 300 pounds per person.
Recognizing that achievement, the Los Angeles Regional Agency (LARA) has presented the university with the Excellence in Environmental Practices Award. A consortium of 16 member cities, LARA's mission is to help members divert waste from the landfill.
Cal Poly Pomona's recycling efforts aren't limited to cans and bottles. Facilities Planning & Management also collects cardboard boxes, paper, construction material, scrap metal and green waste. In addition, it sponsors a recycling program for old cell phones, toner and inkjet cartridges, used furniture and other e-waste.
