The Cinderella story of Cal Poly Pomona’s Men’s Basketball Team caught the attention of the entire nation last month. Their determination and success didn’t go unnoticed at the state capital either. The State Assembly honored the team’s hard work and achievements through an official resolution.
Assemblywoman Norma Torres, D-Pomona, whose district includes part of Cal Poly Pomona, presented the resolution to basketball players and coaches on April 9 at Kellogg Gym.
“I’m so proud of the work you’ve done, putting Pomona and Cal Poly in such a positive light,” Torres said. “Congratulations to the players and the coaching staff for a remarkable season.”
The Broncos entered the 2009 NCAA Division II National Championship as an unranked team. They traveled more than 10,000 miles, from California to Washington to Hawaii to Massachusetts, winning six consecutive games. They played the undefeated Findlay Oilers in the national championship game March 28 and lost 56-53 in overtime.
