Second Bronco Link Shuttle Will Serve Downtown Pomona

Second Bronco Link Shuttle Will Serve Downtown Pomona
Passengers get on the Bronco Link shuttle at the Pomona North Metrolink station.

Commuters soon will have twice the number of reasons to take public transportation instead of driving to the Cal Poly Pomona campus. Beginning March 30, the highly successful Bronco Link shuttle will expand its service to a second Metrolink station.

The university is adding a second shuttle that will provide daily transportation between campus and the Downtown Pomona Metrolink station and bus transit center at 101 W. First St. Free to all Cal Poly Pomona faculty, staff and students who show their Bronco ID, the direct shuttle service will make two stops on campus — in front of the CLA Building and in front of Building 1.

“We are very excited to expand the Bronco Link shuttle service and make it easier for our campus community to use public transportation. By encouraging mass transit, we are bringing fewer cars onto campus and strengthening our commitment to the environment,” says Glenn Shenker, interim director of Parking & Transportation Services.

Every weekday, the shuttle will pick up commuters from downtown Pomona at 6:50 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and arrive on campus at 7:10 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. In the afternoon, it will leave campus at 5:08 p.m. and 6:18 p.m., arriving at the station at 5:30 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. The Downtown Pomona Metrolink station is on the Riverside rail line, which also has stops in Pedley, East Ontario, Industry, Montebello and Union Station in Los Angeles. It also serves as a Transit Center for Foothill Transit and Silver Streak buses.

At the start of fall quarter 2008, the university introduced the first Bronco Link shuttle, which serves the Pomona North station, 205 Santa Fe St. Since the launch, the shuttle service has been a success with at least 20 regular riders daily. Without the Bronco Link, Metrolink commuters do not have a direct bus route from the station to campus.

The Rideshare Office offers reimbursements to faculty and staff of up to $90 a month for the Metrolink and $70 a month for buses. Full-time students can get a 25 percent discount on Metrolink monthly passes and 10-trip tickets.
