Cal Poly Pomona welcomes back alumnus and tenor Gustavo Jimenez on Saturday, Jan. 17, for an evening of opera, mariachi and popular music. Presented by the Music and Theatre departments, the performance also features pianist Janet Noll, vocal/instrumental coach and accompanist at Cal Poly Pomona since 1982.
A Los Angeles native, Jimenez trained for his vocal career at Cal Poly Pomona. He also studied at the Mannes College of Music in New York City and the Juilliard School. His operatic roles include Don Jos from “Carmen”, Max from “Der Freisch” and Tanio from “Pagliacci.” Jimenez often has returned to campus to perform and hold master classes, including an evening concert in 2000 entitled “An Evening of Operatic Arias y Canciones en Español.”
