Professor Injured in Collision Near Campus

Civil Engineering Prof. Peter Boniface is in stable condition following an off-campus collision Tuesday afternoon. While riding his bike, Boniface collided with a car on South Campus Drive, between Kellogg and East Campus Drive just before 5 p.m.

Boniface, 71, is being treated at County-USC Medical Center.

“Dr. Boniface and his wife are avid bicyclists, and he often cycles to and from campus, as well as going on much longer trips. He is a valued faculty member in the Civil Engineering Department, and we wish him a speedy and complete recovery,” says Civil Engineering Department Chair Don Coduto.

Boniface has taught at Cal Poly Pomona for the past 17 years and is an expert in geospatial engineering. His students are often seen on the Engineering Meadow, surveying the land. Boniface's winter quarter classes will continue to meet at the scheduled time and location.

According to the Pomona Police Department, who is handling the investigation, Boniface's bike collided with a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer.
