Richard Lapidus, associate dean of administration at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, has accepted the dean position for the College of Business Administration, Provost Marten denBoer announced today. His appointment begins July 1, 2009.

Lapidus is currently the associate dean of administration and associate professor in the College of Business at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He has also served as chair of the marketing department.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to join Cal Poly Pomona and the College of Business Administration,” said Lapidus. “The college enjoys a rich legacy in Southern California and I am honored to lead this group of dedicated faculty, staff and students.”

The new dean brings a wealth of experience to the university as both a researcher and a faculty member. His current research topics include customer satisfaction, green advertising and customer attitudes toward pirated merchandise. He has published numerous articles on customer service and work-related stress. A frequent presenter at conferences and symposiums, Lapidus speaks on both academic and industry-related subjects.

“Richard truly stood out during our search process, providing a vision for the future of the college,” said denBoer. “His energy and commitment to teaching and scholarship will be well received in the business community and elevate the work of the college.”

Lapidus earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University, a master's degree in marketing from CSU Long Beach and his doctoral degree in marketing from the University of Nebraska.  As a faculty member at UNLV, Lapidus has served on several committees regarding academic affairs, assessment and technology. He is also the past president for the Marketing Educators' Association and for the Las Vegas Professional Chapter of the American Marketing Association.

Lynn Turner had served as the college's interim dean since David Klock, who resigned in February to assume a new position with the University of Alabama – Birmingham.

Before joining academia, Lapidus worked as an account manager for NCR Corporation in New York and as a sales representative for Moore Corporation in New York.
