Stories about the Cal Poly Universities' 61st Rose Float, cell cataloguing and the state of the economy were all recently featured on Time Warner Cable's news show, “Local Edition.” Hosted by Tracy Young, the five-minute segments are aired in conjunction with the cable company's local broadcast of CNN Headline News.

Dr. Timothy Corcoran, associate professor of chemistry, discussed a new National Science Foundation grant. The award of $178,000 will be provided over two years to improve the way cells and their components can be separated and identified. Watch Corcoran's interview in low bandwidth or mid bandwidth. Young discussed the economy with Cal Poly Pomona associate professor Dr. Greg Hunter,  director of the universitys Center for the Study of the Inland Empire. Hunter explored the consumer sentiment index and the idea of the “wealth effect,” where people increase or decrease their spending based on what they perceive of their financial situation. Cal Poly Pomona student Ileana Tejada talked about the Cal Poly Universities' 61st consecutive entry into the Tournament of Roses Parade, “Seaside Amusement.” Students at both campuses in San Luis Obispo and Pomona work on the float year round, from conception and design to construction and decoration.
