Cal Poly Pomona welcomed 2009 Rose Queen Courtney Lee and her Royal Court to the annual Rose Float Queen & Court Luncheon on Nov. 21 at the Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch.
About 100 luncheon guests, including university administrators, Tournament of Roses representatives and students from the Rose Float Club, watched a video that chronicled the Cal Poly Universities' 60 years of participation in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The video also showed recent photos of students building this year's float, entitled “Seaside Amusement.”
During the luncheon, Rose Queen Courtney and each of the six princesses shared her background, education and career plans, and some experiences as a member of the Royal Court.
The 2009 Royal Court includes:
Queen Courtney Lee, 17, Arcadia High School
Princess Mary Gaule, 17, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
Princess Jasmine Jenkins, 17, La Salle High School
Princess Bridget McDonald, 18, Pasadena City College
Princess Molly Novell, 18, La Salle High School
Princess Lauren Valenzuela, 18, Arcadia High School
Princess Quinn Young, 17, La Cañada High School
The 2009 Cal Poly Universities' float is the 61st consecutive entry by students from the Pomona and San Luis Obispo campuses. The float features a fun, lively and whimsical seaside boardwalk scene, fitting the 2009 Rose Parade theme “Hats Off to Entertainment.” The float will include a rollercoaster, Ferris wheel, parachute drop, carousel horses and bumper cars.
