The beef, swine and goat show teams made a very strong showing at the Los Angeles County Fair in September.
The beef show team received nine awards: Champion College Market Steer, Reserve Champion College Market Steer, Champion College Feeder Steer, Reserve Champion College Feeder Steer, Supreme Reserve Champion Feeder Steer, Champion Commercial Female, Reserve Champion Registered Female, Supreme Reserve Champion Female and Champion College Pen of Three Market Steers.
Team members captured first through fourth places and seventh place out of 14 in the showmanship division. Sophomore Samantha Valverde, an animal & veterinary sciences major, won the competition and continued to the master showmanship competition. Team members are: Kristi Perkins, Samantha Valverde, Sarah Dick, Yadi Jiminez and Sergio Garcia.
The swine show team competed in the Reserve Champion College Feeder Pig, and Gina Cunningham, an agricultural education graduate student, took third place in showmanship. The swine show team members are: Cunningham, Brandon Corsello and Jessica Hantsbarger.
The market goat show team exhibited in the Champion College Pen of Three Market Goats, and Cunningham won first in showmanship. She continued to the master showmanship competition.
