School supplies are needed to support Cal Poly Pomona students who volunteer at the Homework Center, which is located at the Pomona Public Library. Staff Council members will collect supplies from Aug. 1 through Sept. 15 at drop boxes located throughout campus.
The Homework Center is a free, comfortable space where students in first through sixth grades can stop by and work on their school assignments independently or with the help of Cal Poly Pomona students. The center is equipped with computers, printers, reference books and school supplies.
Needed items include: markers, crayons, highlighters, calculators, bottled water, rulers, folders, spiral notebooks and backpacks.
The drop box locations are:
- Building 2, Room 219
- Building 75
- Building 81 — A (Environmental Health & Safety)
- Building 81 — Facilities
- Building 98, T6 – Administrative Affairs (Ed Barnes office)
- Building 1, Room 211
- Bronco Bookstore – Deb Matheson's office
- Police Station, Room 102 and 204
If you are unable to find a drop box close to your office, please contact Sharon Roth at firstname.lastname@example.org and Staff Council will arrange to pick up the supplies.
Through Partners in Education, the Center for Community Service-Learning and the Pomona Public Library, the Homework Center opened its doors in March with 34 volunteers. Charlene Wyatt, a liberal studies senior, led the center's creation during her year of service with Americorps.
