I⁢ reminds university employees to not sign up for add-on telephone or data services using their campus phone extensions. These services, advertised on the Internet or in spam e-mail, include online faxing, added voice mail capabilities, credit repair services, Internet security offers, high-speed Internet and discount coupons. The university is billed for these charges when users enlist and provide their campus telephone number as contact information. Working with the individual companies to remove these charges from department extensions is time intensive. Departments are charged for any such added services on a monthly basis until the charges can be resolved. Adding these services to state phone lines is prohibited.
