John “Jack” Robert Hearn, a retired Facilities, Planning & Management employee, died June 28 at the age of 81.
Hearn started working as a planner/estimator at Cal Poly Pomona in 1988 and retired in August 1994. After he retired, he agreed to come back as a retired annuitant to coordinate some projects for University Housing Services and temporarily ran its maintenance department.
He also helped emcee the annual Facilities Holiday luncheon for a number of years, and he often had lunch at Los Olivos Dining Commons.
Born in Manhattan, Hearn moved to Southern California in 1971. He was known for his integrity and principles, as well as his great sense of humor and wit.
Hearn is survived by his wife, Frances, with whom he recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary; daughter, Barbara Jean; and two granddaughters, Marguerite and Camille.
A rosary will be said on Wednesday, July 16 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Claremont. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 17 at noon at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice in Claremont or to the Robert & Beverly Lewis Family Cancer Care Center in Pomona.
