The cataclysmic events in Burma/Myanmar and China have prompted the Asian Pacific Faculty, Staff and Student Association (APFSSA) to raise funds in support of disaster relief efforts. APFSSA, in collaboration with the Asian Pacific Islander Student Center (APISC), will begin hosting donation stands in University Park and the Quad from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, May 29-30 and June 4-5.

More than 100,000 were killed or left homeless in Burma/Myanmar after a cyclone ravaged the country. The earthquake in the Sichuan region of China has impacted millions, with more 65,000 killed.

“I want to extend my appreciation to APFSSA and our Asian Pacific Islander Student Center for their work in helping those less fortunate,” said President Michael Ortiz. “Their humanitarian efforts allow the entire university community to extend a helping hand to those who have been impacted by these natural disasters.”

All funds accumulated through the end of the quarter will be directed to the American Red Cross.
