The Stop Violence Office will participate in the national Sexual Assault Awareness Month by hosting numerous activities throughout April.
Event highlights include the Denim Day Fashion Show and a March and Rally.
Events include:
April 8, 7 p.m. – “One in Four” Men's Program
This one-hour workshop at University Village will address “How to Help a Sexual Assault Survivor: What Men Can Do.” This program for men will be presented by trained male peer educators to all-male groups interested on campus.
April 10, noon – Culture and Cuisine
Join the Stop Violence Office and the Asian Pacific Islander Center for lunch to taste various Asian cuisines and hear a presentation by student organizations about their cultures. Refreshments will be served in the CLA Building's Heritage Room. Seating is limited. RSVP to (909) 869-5025.
April 15, noon – Denim Day Fashion Show
In 1998, an Italian Supreme Court decision overturned a rape conviction because the victim wore jeans. Wearing jeans became an international symbol of protest against destructive attitudes about sexual assault. Support the cause! Wear denim! Watch the fashion show in University Quad.
April 16, 4 p.m. – Sexual Violence in the API Community
The Center for Asian Pacific Families will host a workshop in the Bronco Student Center's Centaurus Room on root causes and consequences of family violence in the API community.
April 21, 1 p.m. – “The Peacekeepers and the Women”
Winner of the Arte-Documentary Award for Best German Documentary, this chilling investigation examines the booming sex-trafficking industry in Bosnia and Kosovo, and boldly explores the disturbing role of the UN peacekeeping forces and the local military in allegedly perpetuating this tragic situation. The film will be shown in the Centaurus Room.
April 23, 4 p.m. – Grassroots Leadership for Female Farm Workers
Members of Lideres Campesinas will speak about how their organization offers advocacy and education to farm worker women affected by pesticides, domestic violence and AIDS. The event takes place in the Centaurus Room.
April 29, noon – March & Rally
Participate in the bi-annual March & Rally in the University Quad to end sexual violence against women. Sign making begins at 11 a.m.
