Interim Provost Herman Lujan announced today, March 7, that longtime Cal Poly Pomona administrator and professor Dr. Les Young will be the College of Agriculture's interim dean.
Young has a distinguished track record of 31 years of experience and leadership, including more than 20 years as a faculty member and department chair, as well several years as associate dean.
“Over the past few months, we have asked some of our deans to serve double-duty, leading two different colleges simultaneously while a permanent search is underway. While this has worked in some situations, it has not been a good model for the Colleges of Agriculture and Science. Both of these organizations need dedicated full-time support immediately,” Lujan says.
Dr. Don Straney will reassume full-time responsibilities as dean of the College of Science.
“I would like to personally thank Don for his work in agriculture over the past nine months,” Lujan says.
Young will lead the College of Agriculture until a national search for the permanent position is complete.
