Long-time Director Announces Retirement
Pat Davis

After nearly 32 years, Pat Davis has retired from Cal Poly Pomona. Her retirement party will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major C.

Since graduating from Cal Poly Pomona in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in home economics, Davis has filled many positions at the university. However she is best known for the 20 years of leadership she has provided to the ReEntry & WoMen's Resource Center, originally called the Center for ReEntry & Transition.

“Pat is synonymous with the center. She has been such a strong advocate for women, ReEntry students, and Cal WORKs students, always empowering others and pushing for change,” says colleague Anita Roberts, program coordinator of the ReEntry & WoMen's Resource Center.

Davis began her career at Cal Poly Pomona as a graduate student assistant in the Office of Financial Aid.  In her first year she held five different positions, including trainee and assistant for Student Affairs. In 1978, she was named a program advisor in the Student Development department. She was a lecturer for Ethnic & Women's Studies in 1984.

In 1988, she was named the coordinator of the Center for ReEntry & Transition. In 1995, she became director of the Center for ReEntry Services. Although the name of the center has changed several times, Davis' commitment to students and the Cal Poly Pomona community has remained consistent.

“During her 30-plus years on campus, she's been an integral part of the university community, always connecting with people and spreading awareness,” Roberts says. “Pat is an incredible woman, ally, and friend, and I, along with many students, staff, faculty and administrators, will miss her greatly.”

Her other career highlights include serving as president and vice president of POWER – Professional Organization of Women in Education and ReEntry and Sacramento State recognizing her as an Administrative Fellow.

Janetta McDowell has been named the interim director for the ReEntry and WoMen's Resource Center and can be reached at jmdismuke@cpp.edu or (909) 869-3205.
