Alumnus-Fronted Rock Band Performs Friday

Melodic pop/rock band The Denouement and singer/songwriter Johanna Chase will perform in concert Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall.

The Denouement is a Southern California-based band featuring recent Cal Poly Pomona Music Industry Studies graduate Matthew Starcher who plays the guitar and mandolin. Starcher also recorded, mixed and mastered the band's first full-length album Low Tide. The band won the Cal Poly Pomona Music & Entertainment Industry Student Association's (MEISA) Battle of the Bands last year.

The show's opening act is Seattle-native Johanna Chase, who employs melodic and rhythmic guitar to accompany her songs about “people who are typically unheard.” She will soon release her fourth album.

Tickets are $10 and the proceeds will fund scholarships for Music Industry Studies students. This program currently comprises half of the Music department's 225 undergraduate majors. MIS students gain valuable career preparation through music-industry internships and they tailor their studies to emphasize in music business, production or recording.

Tickets are available at www.zaptix.com or through the Music Publicity Office, 24-142, and (909) 869-3554.
