Food Industry Conference Coming to Cal Poly Pomona
The conference will be Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The College of Agriculture's Food Science & Technology program will host the 20th annual Southern California Food Industry Conference at Kellogg West Conference Center on Tuesday, Feb. 13 from 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.  

The Southern California Section of the Institute of Food Technologists' annual conference offers a unique collaboration of industry executives, suppliers, educators and students. The program will focus on emerging trends within the industry, including the proliferation of functional foods.

Several Cal Poly Pomona faculty members will be involved with the conference including Professor Marie Caudill, who will give a presentation titled “Nutrigenetics as a Potential Tool for Targeted Medical Nutrition Therapy.”

Along with the speakers and discussion panels, the day will be highlighted with a product development competition that addresses the epidemic of childhood obesity and how new California legislation is dealing with this important issue.

The day's agenda will be supplemented with various culinary tasting and entertainment including a presentation by Esencia Flamenco. The flamenco troupe, directed by Sarah Parra, is dedicated to promoting the art of this colorful cultural dance throughout the region.
