La'Keisha Gilford-Beard |
After an extensive and comprehensive search, La'Keisha Gilford-Beard assumed the position of coordinator of the African American Student Center.
Gilford-Beard began her new position in November after working for UC Irvine where she was the Apartment Life coordinator of Campus Village Housing. She has also taught in the Compton Unified School District and previously served in several positions in Cal Poly Pomona's University Housing Services as a program, residence and area coordinator.
Gilford-Beard served on the board of UCI's Black Faculty and Staff Association and is a two time recipient of the Black Leadership Advancement Coalition's New Professional Award given by UCI. She earned a B.A. in communications from Cal State San Bernardino and a M.Ed. in cross cultural education from National University.
“We are very excited to welcome La'Keisha back to Cal Poly Pomona. She has a strong background in student development and multicultural affairs,” says Sunny Lee, interim director of the Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers. “Her familiarity with the campus and the African American community will serve the center well. She is a great new addition to the team in the Office of Student Life & Cultural Centers.”
