Bronco Ballroom Blitz Cuts the Rug
L.A. Clippers Dancer Nicole Willis will be one of four from her team to perform Nov. 17.

For those who didn't get enough ballroom watching “Dancing With The Stars” from their couches, there is an opportunity this Friday to get out and get down during Bronco Ballroom Blitz.

The relatively new Cal Poly Pomona Ballroom Dance Co. is hosting the dance Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Darlene May Gym where there will be performances by professional dancers and lessons for ballroom newbies.

“There is definitely talent at Cal Poly Pomona and there is a lot of enthusiasm,” says Lecturer Wes Acker, who teaches social dance in the Kinesiology & Health Promotion department. “People are finally learning what it's like to dance with a partner.”

Four L.A. Clippers dancers will perform throughout the night and will sign autographs at 7:30 p.m. Students from the 30-member dance company will also perform.

At 8 p.m. there will be an hour-long group tango lesson.

From 9 p.m. until midnight there will be open Latin, swing, ballroom and hip-hop dancing.

Acker formed the Cal Poly Pomona Ballroom Dance Co. in the spring after forming similar student companies at the Claremont Colleges and UC Irvine.

The Cal Poly Pomona company has attracted students from a several disciplines on campus. They rehearse three times a week and plan to do a show in University Theatre this spring.

The dance company is looking for 10-12 new dancers, and an open audition will be Nov. 30 at 9 p.m. in Kellogg Gym, room 128.

Advance tickets for Bronco Ballroom Blitz are on sale at the Bronco Student Center's Games Room Etc., for $8, and they will be $10 at the door. For more information call (909) 869-2855 or visit: https://www.cpp.edu/~wjacker/home.html
