A welding accident burned the large topiary bushes that spelled “CP.” |
One of the main entrances to the university looks a little different these days. While installing a new marquee Monday morning, a welder caused a fire that destroyed large topiary bushes that spelled out “CP.”
The fire quickly engulfed the bushes, however luckily it did not spread from the marquee island at University Drive and Kellogg Avenue. The welder was an installation subcontractor.
The marquee was up and running by the next day. Repairs to the sign platform will be done soon, however a plan to replace the bushes is still being developed.
Last week, two other new marquees were installed without incident at the corner of South Campus Drive and Temple Avenue.
