The California State University Board of Trustees on May 17 named Mohammad H. Qayoumi, vice president for administration and finance and chief financial officer at Cal State Northridge, as the new president of Cal State East Bay. Qayoumi, born in Afghanistan, is the first Afghan to lead a major U.S. university. He will succeed outgoing president Norma S. Rees, who is retiring in July.
