Cal Poly Federal Credit Union Warns of Phony E-mail

The Cal Poly Federal Credit Union (CPFCU) warns that a fraudulent e-mail claiming to be from the credit union is being circulated. CPFCU urges the campus community to NOT RESPOND TO THE E-MAIL.

The e-mail subject is usually titled “Urgent Notification !!!” and is addressed to CPFCU customers. The content displays the credit unions logo and begins with the following sentence: “We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your Cal Poly Federal Credit Union Internet Banking account may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party … Therefore, as a preventative measure, we have temporarily limited access to sensitive account features.” The e-mail then asks users to visit a spoofed Web site and enter personal and financial information to restore their account.

Although they may appear to be legitimate, these e-mails are not from any CPFCU person on campus. Do not respond to the e-mail.
