Sally Johnstone, a noted leader in the area of e-learning and distance education, will give a presentation on “Emerging Trends in E-Learning,” on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Conference Center (CLA Building 98-T8). Faculty and staff are invited to attend this free event.
The presentation is part of Johnstone's two-day visit to Cal Poly Pomona, arranged by Instructional & Information Technology as part of a campus initiative to support online and hybrid learning. She will meet with faculty and administrative committees involved in e-learning on Oct. 26.
Johnstone is executive director of the Western Cooperative for Educational Telecommunications (WCET) founded in 1989 by the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education. As founding director of WCET, Johnstone has been a leader in advancing effective use of technology in higher education. Her areas of expertise include the effects of technology integration on higher education institutions and systems; open educational resources; distance education; collaborations and partnerships; and planning for and implementation of e-learning.
Johnstone serves as a contributing editor for Change: The Magazine for Higher Learning and she is on the editorial board for the Journal of Open and Distance Learning. She has served on the boards of the American Association for Higher Education and the U.S. Open University. Johnstone has authored dozens of publications on distance and distributed learning; she also leads workshops and gives nearly a dozen invited addresses each year to higher education organizations.
