BroncoFusion, a day-long event designed to connect entering Cal Poly Pomona students with faculty, staff and other new students while gaining valuable skills to succeed, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 21. Festivities, expected to draw more than 3,000 students, begin at 9:15 a.m. with an opening mixer followed by a welcome from University Provost Tomas Morales.
This is the third year for the free event, scheduled the day before fall quarter classes begin to welcome and acquaint both freshmen and transfer students with the campus and its services. Activities focus on providing new students with information, contacts and resources they can use throughout their college careers. Campus experts will present workshops on vital skills needed by students, such as time management, navigating the campus and effectively using the library. Other planned activities include campus tours, open house receptions, an afternoon academic mixer, a barbecue dinner, and a chance to learn about dozens of clubs and organizations.
The event concludes with a free concert by the San Diego-based power-pop band Unwritten Law (www.unwrittenlaw.com) at 6:30 p.m. on Horseshoe Hill east of University Plaza. In addition, Kris Roe from The Ataris (www.myspace.com/theataris) will take the stage before Unwritten Law for a special solo acoustic performance. The concert is sponsored by Associated Students Inc. (ASI) Bronco Events & Activities Team (B.E.A.T.) and GU Extension. GU Extension is a student-centered, experience-based partnership between ASI B.E.A.T. and Guerilla Union, a production company from San Dimas.
BroncoFusion is hosted by the Office of the President, ASI and the divisions of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Administrative Affairs, Instructional & Information Technology and University Advancement.
All members of the campus community are invited and encouraged to participate in BroncoFusion. The BroncoFusion committee is looking for outgoing, energetic and responsible students and staff to volunteer for the event. Duties for volunteers may include greeting students, directing students, putting up signs, hosting dinner conversations, setting up tables and clean up. All volunteers will receive a BroncoFusion T-shirt.
