Carol A. Bartell, who had served as the dean of the Charter College of Education at California State University, Los Angeles, has been named interim dean for Cal Poly Pomona's College of Education & Integrative Studies (CEIS). Her appointment begins on Monday, Oct. 3.
“I am extremely pleased to be joining an excellent university and look forward to providing leadership for a unique college,” says Bartell. “The four strong departments in CEIS seem to be united by the common commitments to embrace diversity, connect to communities, and strive for excellence. I share those commitments and look forward to a year that will focus on creating a culture of community, collegiality and productivity.”
Bartell served Cal State L.A. for the past two years as dean of the college and professor of educational administration. Prior to that, she spent eight years as dean and professor of educational administration in the School of Education at California Lutheran University. Bartell has also served on the faculty of the University of the Pacific and the University of Iowa, while also spending six years as a consultant in program evaluation and research for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
“The university is very fortunate to gain someones of Dr. Bartell's experience,” says Provost Tomas Morales. “CEIS is on track to accomplish great things this year behind Carol's leadership.”
Bartell earned an Ed.D. in educational administration with a specialization in policy research from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. She also earned her master's in early childhood development from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's in elementary education/music history and literature from Concordia University (IL).
