Political Science junior Carmen Franklin distinctly remembers the first person she helped navigate through the complex civil justice system — an 18-year-old single mother struggling to provide for her 6-month-old baby. The baby?s father wasn?t providing child support, and the young mother had come to the Pomona Self-Help Legal Access Center seeking guidance filling out the proper custody, visitation and child support forms.
