Student Dies After UC Irvine Fraternity Football Game

A 19-year-old Cal Poly Pomona student was critically injured at an off-campus, non-university event on Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005. Civil Engineering student Kenny Luong was taking part in a football game at San Marcos Park in Irvine along with other Cal Poly Pomona and UC Irvine students.

The football game was part of an activity associated with students from Cal Poly Pomona and a UC Irvine fraternity. This fraternity has not been chartered on the Cal Poly Pomona campus.

The football game had started at about 11:30 a.m. About three hours later, paramedics responded to a call about an injury. The student was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he later died.

The Irvine Police Department is investigating the incident.
