HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF – A Message From President Michael Ortiz

HURRICANE KATRINA RELIEF - A Message From President Michael Ortiz
.

This past week, our nation has suffered through one of its greatest natural disasters. Hurricane Katrina has caused an unprecedented level of casualties and destruction to the entire Gulf Coast. It will be weeks and months before the impact is fully realized.

One thing is for sure — these people need our help. No one is better positioned to address that need than the American Red Cross.

Here on our campus, we have established a simple way by which our faculty, staff and students can support the relief efforts through a donation to the American Red Cross c/o Hurricane Katrina. The Cal Poly Pomona Federal Credit Union at the Bronco Student Center or the University Advancement Gifts Processing office (1-211) are locations where checks can be dropped off. In addition, the credit union will provide ways for members to transfer money from existing accounts. University Advancement will forward all accumulated funds to the Credit Union through the end of September.

We are now learning that there are a number of unscrupulous entities preying on people's emotions by asking for fraudulent donations online. My intent is to establish a convenient vehicle for those of us who wish to donate and have not already identified a procedure for doing so, much the same way the Cal Poly Pomona community did after the Indian Ocean Tsunami. Any amount contributed will make a difference.

Please keep those impacted by this horrible event in your thoughts and thank you for your consideration.

Michael Ortiz
