Be sure to mark your calendars and join your university community colleagues on Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 a.m. in the Meadow (adjacent the engineering laboratory) to launch the 2005-06 academic year by celebrating student success. President Ortiz will begin Convocation with a brief state of the university address, focusing on the universitys vision and plans for the upcoming year, as well as recognize members of the Cal Poly Pomona family for their outstanding work in supporting student success. Monday afternoon (1:30-4 p.m.) features a special symposium open to all faculty and staff entitled: Millennial, Gen-X, or Net Students: Enhancing Success for Todays Cal Poly Pomona Students. Beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Ursa Major Suite of the Bronco Student Center, the opening session begins with a video presentation by Dr. Diana Oblinger, vice president of EDUCAUSE. This unique event is unlike any previous Fall Conference seminars and has been specifically designed to explore the many ways we support student learning throughout the university, as well as learn new ways to advance student success. Fall Conference 2005 will also include some of our legacy events, including the 2005 Service Awards at 10:30 a.m. (Ursa Major) and the Presidents Reception (4 p.m. Kellogg House Pomona). There will be a special seminar on the Constitution on Wednesday (time and place to be announced), plus open house events in select departments in conjunction with BroncoFusion, Cal Poly Pomona's annual event to welcome new students.
