University Events Coordinator Jan Weiner receives Planner of the Year award by the Meeting Professionals International, Southern California Chapter. |
Jan Weiner, university events coordinator, was named Planner of the Year by the Meeting Professionals International, Southern California Chapter (MPISCC).
Weiner was presented the award at the organization's annual installation banquet on June 23 at the Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena.
She was one of four nominees from the 830 members in the chapter. Criteria for the nomination included cumulative service to the chapter, industry contributions, community service and professional/career advancement.
As Cal Poly Pomona's university events coordinator, Weiner organizes Founders' Celebration, the university's premier social and support event. This year's benefit gala, featuring Grammy-award winning singer Glen Campbell, raised more than $325,000 for student scholarships and academic enrichment. She also coordinates the university's commencement ceremonies and annual Veterans' Day ceremony.
Weiner is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) and a Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP). Since joining MPI in 1999, Weiner has been a part of the nominating, installation and weekend educational summit committees. In addition, she has served on the board for two years, as planner director 2002-03 and as vice president of education 2003-04 when MPISCC won Chapter of the Year award.
