Traffic Gridlock in Surrounding Freeways; Consider Alternate Departure Routes

Please be informed that major traffic congestion on Temple Avenue and local freeways will affect the drive to and from Cal Poly Pomona. A traffic collision on July 27 involving a big rig that crossed a center divider and caught fire has caused lane closures and traffic gridlock on numerous freeways in the surrounding area.

The collision, which occurred this morning, closed both sides of the 60 freeway, and has created gridlock throughout the Southland. At 4:05 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that the traffic collision was creating backup on the southbound 57 freeway from the 10 freeway; the westbound 10 from the 57; the northbound 71 freeway to westbound 10; the northbound 57 to the westbound 10; the eastbound 10 to the southbound 57; and the westbound 10 to the southbound 57. In addition, Temple Avenue traffic is congested in both directions.

The university community is encouraged to consider a different route home to avoid traffic.
