The Office of Public Affairs has won three national Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) 2005. The following honors were received: Award of Excellence, Video News Releases, for “Memories of Cal Poly Pomona” Annual Fund flash e-mail; Award of Excellence, Annual Report Web and Electronic, for “President's Annual Report Online”; and Award of Excellence, Magazine Design, for “PolyTrends Magazine.”

“Cal Poly Pomona always comes through with innovative entries, and the judges look forward to viewing them,” says John De Lellis, editor and publisher of Writing That Works and a competition judge. “The entry, “Memories of Cal Poly Pomona”, was exceptionally well done, and, we think, got the point across very well.”

APEX is an annual awards competition providing recognition for outstanding publications produced by professional communicators in corporate, nonprofit and independent settings. The competition, which began in 1988, is open to professional communicators in corporate, nonprofit and independent settings. The awards are based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content, and the ability to achieve overall communications effectiveness and excellence.

APEX is sponsored by the editors of Writing That Works, the newsletter published by Communications Concepts Inc. for communicators who write, edit and manage business publications.

This year, the APEX award program received nearly 5,000 entries from throughout the United States, with less than one-third receiving recognition.
