Michael Guerin, chief, University Police, hosted visiting university police officials from the People’s Republic of China in June. The officials learned about some of the University Police Department’s programs designed to provide effective public safety for the campus community. Composed of executives from university police at universities in Beijing, Chendu, Harbin, Shenyang and Shanghai, the delegation learned about the university’s exemplary Community Service Officer program and its effective emergency management activities. Questions on police officer selection and training standards were answered by the police department’s Kris Surber, administrative support coordinator, Sgt. Leo Verdugo, and community service officers Regina Johnson and Hisham Hasbini.
