Hamid Shirvani, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Chapman University, was named the eighth president of California State University, Stanislaus. In other news, English and mathematics proficiency of high school graduates who entered the CSU as first-time freshmen in fall 2004 did not change significantly compared with the previous year, according to a report presented to the Board of Trustees on March 15.
