In Memoriam: Mathematics Professor Emeritus Hsin Fan
Hsin Fan

Hsin Fan, a professor emeritus in the Mathematics department, died of complications from diabetes on Dec. 26, 2004. He was 77 years old.

Fan taught Mathematics at Cal Poly Pomona from 1969 until retiring in 2002. During his time teaching, he also helped to arrange scholarships for students studying abroad in China. A resident of Claremont, Fan was the founder of the Pomona Valley Chinese Association.

“Despite his old age and ill health, Fan continued to teach because being around students was his favorite occupation,” says Hasan Celik, professor emeritus in Mathematics.

Fan is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Calvin; and daughters, Carol and Cathyn.  Family, friends and colleagues gathered for a memorial service on Dec. 31, 2004, at Forest Lawn in West Covina.
