Root for the men's and women's basketball teams as they battle it out against conference rival Cal State San Bernardino during the fifth annual Pack the Gym Night on Friday, Jan. 21, in the Kellogg Gym.
This year's goal is to top the regular season Kellogg Gym attendance record of 1,504, which was set on Feb. 6, 2004, at a game vs. CSU Stanislaus.
Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend a free tailgate. The party, which is hosted by the Associated Students Inc. Bronco Events and Activities Team (ASI B.E.A.T.) and the Athletics department, starts at 4:30 p.m. on the west side of Kellogg Gym. ASI B.E.A.T. will provide a live disc jockey and free food.
The Bronco women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
Pack the Gym Night will include free giveaways plus live performances by the Cal Poly Pomona cheer squad, the Bronco pep band and a dance performance by Sigma Kappa Sorority. In addition, all game attendees can have their faces painted green and gold by student-athletes.
General admission to the basketball games is free for all students, faculty and staff with a valid Cal Poly Pomona I.D. Other fans can receive free admission by donating three canned food items to help the Bronco Athletic Association's charity food drive for a local shelter.
“We wanted to create a fun environment for the campus and the surrounding community,” says Britt Sumida, Bronco Athletic Association President. “At the same time we are able to give back by collecting canned food items for people in need. It's our way of showcasing our spirit.”
