In accordance with the university master plan, the campus core has been closed to all vehicular traffic except for specifically authorized vehicles. This closure causes important changes which are described below:
Campus deliveries are changing to improve safety and security.
To address the traffic needs of vendors, suppliers and transportation services providers, deliveries will be directed to University Receiving, Building 75, or Distribution Services, Building 98, for receipt, inspection, staging and on-campus delivery by university personnel. A process was developed for certain service providers to access the core on a limited basis through the Visitor Information Booth. This change will be fully implemented with the change in campus core gate arm access codes.
Affected areas were involved in the planning efforts to implement the core vehicle closure by the Presidents Cabinet. For more information about campus deliveries, contact Don Green, Procurement & Support Services, at (909) 869-3400.
Campus core gate arm codes are changing.
The security code on the following gate arms that control access onto the campus core walkway (formerly Olive Lane) will be changed on Friday, Oct. 29:
- Gate #2 on Olive Lane near the Faculty Office Building 94
- Gate #6 in Parking Lot D under the palm trees
- Gate #7 on Camphor Lane near the Music Building 24
- Gate #15 on Olive Lane near the Engineering Lab Building 17 and the Rose Garden
These changes are in line with the campus goal of creating a safe pedestrian walkway through the core of the campus, while limiting vehicle access on the walkway to only emergency and service vehicles on an as-needed basis.
Facilities Management has notified those campus departments that were approved for new gate openers by the President's Cabinet. Those departments may pick up the new dual-button openers at the Facilities Customer Service Center in Building 81 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information, call the Facilities Customer Service Center at (909) 869-3030.
For special event setup, restricted-use gate openers may be temporarily checked out from the Police Department at (909) 869-3070.
