Penelope Torribio, a Cal Poly Pomona alumna and professional puppeteer, will perform a puppet show adaptation of “Passage to India, The Ramayana” on Saturday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Studio Theatre at the Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
Using marionettes from Myanmar and shadow puppets from Indonesia, Torribio presents an original up-tempo adaptation of the great Hindu folktale, the Ramayana. This epic poem provides insight into many aspects of Indian culture and continues to influence politics, religion and art of modern India.
Torribio spent nearly seven years researching the Ramayana, culminating in a trip to India.
The Cal Poly Pomona Downtown Center is located at 300 W. Second St. in Pomona.
