Nearly 60 alumni from agriculture to science, plus a few friends of the university, came to campus May 13 to share professional experiences with students as professors for a day.

The Professor for a Day program began in 1997. Twice a year, alumni are invited to serve as guest lecturers in a classroom setting. The program provides an opportunity for alumni to highlight the variety of career options available to students after graduation and to reconnect with former professors and old friends. Through this experience, students gain a perspective on life beyond the university.

?The Professor for a Day event was an inspiration of the Office of Alumni Affairs and the Alumni Association, and the partnership has grown to include Academic Affairs and academic leaders,? said Debra Brum, associate provost of Academic Affairs.

?This event just grows in popularity every year,? she said. ?We have this event twice a year and I wouldn?t be surprised if we had to do it three times next year just to accommodate all of the enthusiasm.?

The guest-lecturers and host faculty members were recognized and given commemorative gifts during a luncheon at The Restaurant at Kellogg Ranch.

?Professor for a Day is an experience that is of tremendous importance to this institution because our students get to see alumni who have received their education and gone on to be successful,? President Ortiz said to the participating alumni. ?Your work reflects on Cal Poly Pomona?s academic programs, and the success of our alumni is what draws students to this institution.?

?Cal Poly Pomona will always be your home. Come visit us often,? Ortiz added.
