Nominations for George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership


Nominations are being accepted for the 2004-05 George P. Hart Award for Outstanding Faculty Leadership. The award and $1,000 honorarium are presented annually at the university?s Fall Convocation.

The Hart Award, now in its eighth year, recognizes faculty members who are regarded as role models and leaders, both on campus and in the community. The award was established in 1996 following the death of George P. Hart, a well-respected 30-year member of the Political Science department and an associate dean in the College of Letters, Arts & Social Sciences. Hart had also served on the Academic Senate for 15 years.

The ideal candidate will be one whose personal influence extends beyond the boundaries of the academic setting, enriching the wider community. Selection criteria will be based on the following:

  • Strong personal traits reflecting compassion, benevolence and intellectual curiosity
  • Exemplary leadership at the university
  • Ongoing participation in university life
  • A recognized role model for faculty and students
  • Active community leadership
