Expansion to Parking Lot M Opens

Faculty, staff and students can now take advantage of an additional 271 new parking spaces in the expanded Lot M, adjacent to Lot J and near the College of Environmental Design.

?We are very excited to be able to provide new parking in an area of campus that is severely impacted,? says Charles Holt, director of Parking & Transportation Services. ?Thousands of students each week will be able to park in one of the most desirable locations on campus.?

Construction of the new parking lot, which began in September, took approximately six weeks to complete. The $635,000-project consisted of expanding Lot M into the adjacent vacant agriculture land. Work included modifications to storm drains, new concrete curbs and gutters, an access sidewalk into the lot from University Drive, and asphalt paving.

The lot is currently lighted with portable generator lights, and Parking & Transportation Services will install permanent lighting fixtures by mid-November. An additional ticket dispenser and blue emergency phone will also be added to the area.

Parking Lot M serves the colleges of Environmental Design; Agriculture; Science; Business; Letters, Arts & Social Sciences; Education & Integrative Studies; and the Student Health Center.

Student approval and support of the parking fee increase made the lot expansion possible. Parking fees have also provided for the development of parking Lot B (an additional 800 spaces), the Bronco Express Shuttle service and the on-going design of a 2,500-space parking structure to break ground in Spring 2004.
