Cal Poly Rose Float Collection Now Featured on Web
Cal Poly universities' entry for the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade, “A Sundae Afternoon,” which won the Theme Trophy, is featured on the library's new Web site with other float memorabilia.

The University Library has created a new Web site featuring the Cal Poly Rose Float Collection at www.cpp.edu/~library/LibraryInfo/special/RoseFloat/index.html.

The site showcases a collection received from the Cal Poly Pomona Rose Float Alumni Association. Last year, nearly 40 boxes of photos, files and extensive memorabilia documenting more than 50 years of float building were transferred by the association to the library for permanent preservation in the University Archives.

Visitors to the collection Web site can learn about rose float history and view a list of the Cal Poly floats, awards won, photos, renderings and film clips. The film clips are especially valuable in demonstrating the animation and special effects used on each float. The site, supported in part by a grant from the Arroyo Seco Library System, will be added to and updated as more memorabilia becomes available.

This year?s Cal Poly Universities Rose Parade Float, ?A Sundae Afternoon,? took home the Theme Trophy at the 114th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on New Year?s Day. It marked the 55th consecutive Cal Poly Universities entry into the Rose Parade. The project ? involving both the Pomona and San Luis Obispo campuses ? is the only float entry designed, constructed, decorated and financed entirely by students.
