Cal Poly Universities Rose Parade Float, ?A Sundae Afternoon,? took home the Theme Trophy at the 114th Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena on New Year?s Day.
Cal Poly students depicted this year?s parade theme, Children?s Dreams, Wishes and Imagination, through an animated candy carnival that featured gingerbread men riding a spinning sundae, a candy cane Ferris wheel and a banana split roller coaster.
?We?re thrilled with the award,? says Ron Simons, associate vice president of development at Cal Poly Pomona. ?This is one of the highest honors.?
?A Sundae Afternoon? marks the 55th consecutive Cal Poly Universities entry into the Rose Parade. The project ? involving both the Pomona and San Luis Obispo campuses ? is the only float entry designed, constructed, decorated and financed entirely by students.
Also participating in this year?s parade seen by millions of viewers was Cal Poly Pomona?s W.K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center Equestrian Unit. Nine current students and the director of the horse center appeared aboard 10 horses from the Kellogg Arabian Herd.
