The postseason march begins Thursday, Nov. 7, for Cal Poly Pomona as it opens play in the 2002 CCAA Women?s Soccer Championship Tournament with a 2 p.m. first-round match against North Division winner UC Davis.

Hosted by Sonoma State, this year?s tournament features the top four teams in conference play. The Broncos, currently ranked 11th nationally, finished the regular season 11-5-2 overall, 9-3-2 in conference play. Second in the final South Division standings, their 29 points trailed only to South Division winner UC San Diego?s 34 points, earning the Broncos the tournament?s wild card berth.

The Aggies (10-5-2, 8-4-2) beat Chico State 1-0 in their regular season finale to advance into tournament play. This season?s only meeting between the two first-round opponents saw Cal Poly Pomona defeat UC Davis 1-0 on Oct. 13 in Pomona.

Thursday?s other opening match has two-time defending conference champion UC San Diego (13-2-1, 11-2-1) taking on Central Division winner Cal State Dominguez Hills (11-6-3, 8-5-1) at 11 a.m. Thursday?s winners advance to Saturday?s tournament championship match, scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.

This marks the fifth straight appearance by the Broncos in the conference tournament. Cal Poly Pomona lost 2-0 to UCSD in last year?s title game. In 1999, the last time Sonoma State hosted the tournament, the Broncos defeated CS Dominguez Hills in four overtimes to win the CCAA crown.

The 2002 CCAA Men?s Soccer Championship Tournament opens Friday, Nov. 8, with two first-round matches. Cal State Dominguez Hills takes on UCSD at 11 a.m. followed by Cal State Bakersfield meeting host Sonoma State at 1 p.m. The men?s championship match will be played Sunday at 1 p.m.

Single-session admission to the CCAA Tournament is $5 for adults, $3 for seniors, students with valid I.D. and children.
